How to Search the Catalog
- Online Search Engine
- bibcat
- bibgrep
Using bibcat
The command ‘bibcat’ will start a graphical (X11) client to the database files. If you execute bibcat for the first time, it will set up some files in you home directory. Don't be alarmed, if you get an error message after that. Just terminate the graphical client and start it again. If the problem persists, please contact Axel Kohlmeyer. The facility is restricted to machines with IP numbers belonging to Theochem.
Using bibgrep
The command ‘bibgrep’ will give you a grep style, interface text mode interface to the database. Type ‘bibgrep --help’ to get an overview of the avaiable options. Typical uses would be:bibgrep 'Numerical Recipes'
bibgrep -i numerical | grep -i fortran
bibgrep -i quant | more
The facility is restricted to machines with IP numbers belonging to Theochem.
Note: The database of the catalog contains special characters, like German umlauts (ä, ö, ü and ß) and French accents (à, é, î, etc.). If you want to search (using bibcat or bibgrep) for expressions with umlauts or French accents, you have to replace them by the nearest ASCII character(s). For example, the German umlauts ä, ö, ü and ß should be replaced by a, o, u and ss, while the French accents à, é, î, etc. should be replaced by a, e, i, etc. A TEX-style replacement of these special characters or writing them, for instance in the case of umlauts, as ae, oe and ue DOES NOT work!
